  5.    This function allows you to specify search criteria to allow the system to
  6.    search for files for you.  A wide variety of search methods can be chosen
  7.    and due to the fact that the database are indexed, these searches will be
  8.    extremely fast.  Below are the available search parameters and options.

  10.     [N]ame           - Filename or any part of - Wildcard chars *.* allowed
  11.     [K]eyword        - Specific keyword associated with the file
  12.     [D]escription    - Text string in both short and long descriptions
  13.     [U]ploaded by    - Display files uploaded by a specific callers name
  14.     [L]isting method - Display output listing in Single, Double or Full
  15.                        Detailed Information modes

  17.     [H]elp           - Displays this Help screen
  18.     [Q]uit search    - Exit Text Search function and return to File Menu
  19.     [S]tart search   - After all criteria is entered, start the search

  27.    WILDCAT! supports extremely fast searching ability do to the fact that all
  28.    the databases are indexed.  This allows you to search thru thousands of
  29.    different files in the matter of seconds to produce a list of files that
  30.    match your selected search criteria.  Plus full file marking and viewing
  31.    options are available at the -Pause- prompts.  Selecting this option
  32.    presents the following sub-prompt:

  36.      [N]ame          : *.*
  37.      [K]eyword       : All
  38.      [D]escription   : All
  39.      [U]ploaded by   : All
  40.  
  41.      [L]isting method: Double line

  43.      Search command [N K D L U], [H]elp, [Q]uit search, [S]tart search [ ]

  45.    Defaults parameters shown above will produce a complete list of all the
  46.    files on the BBS.  You can specify more than one search parameter to
  47.    further narrow down your search.

  49.    Below is a explanation of the above commands.
  50.  
  51.      [N]ame -
  52.           The name search criteria lets you locate files with a file mask
  53.           using the standard DOS wildcard characters of * & ?.  You can edit
  54.           the field to search only for files with the ZIP extension (*.ZIP)
  55.           or only those beginning with the word WILD (WILD*.*).  This
  56.           criterion performs an incredibly fast search since the file names
  57.           are indexed.

  59.      [K]eyword -
  60.           The Keyword search criteria lets you locate files based any one of
  61.           the five keywords connected with each file.  The keywords
  62.           connected with each file are used to help identify common factors
  63.           when doing searches.
  64.  
  65.           The key (no pun intended) to a successful keyword search is brevity.
  66.           If you are looking for programs for Microsoft Windows version 3.0,
  67.           don't enter the entire phrase, shorten it to WIN.  The reason is
  68.           that key searches will produce a match for every key word that
  69.           matches or is LONGER. For example, if a group of files contains the
  70.           following keywords:

  72.                      VICTOR     WAN     WIN       WINDOWS
  73.                      VITAMIN    WAR     WINDOW    WONDER
  74.  
  75.           Then the word WIN will select and match WIN WINDOW and WINDOWS
  76.           while the word WINDOWS will only match the single entry.  Keep
  77.           your keywords short, and try several related ideas for the best
  78.           search.  Keyword searches are very fast since they are indexed.

  80.      [D]escription -
  81.           The description search criteria lets you locate files by searching
  82.           the entire description of the file, including the extended message
  83.           description.  Utilizing this search method adds significant time
  84.           to the search process!  If used, it should be limited to a specific
  85.           file area, or combined with a limited filename mask.

  87.      [U]ploaded by -
  88.           This parameter will allow you to search for files that a specific
  89.           caller has uploaded.  Selecting this choice presents the sub prompt:

  91.                Users FIRST & LAST name? [              ]
  92.  
  93.           and then allows you to enter a callers name or any portion of it.
  94.           This is handy if you wish to search for all the files uploaded by a
  95.           specific caller.

  97.      [L]isting method -
  98.           After entering and accepting your criteria you may also select the
  99.           type of listing mode you want prior to beginning the search with
  100.           this command.  The default is Double line, and can be toggled to
  101.           Single line or Full/Detail Information modes.  Additional help
  102.           information is available after selecting this option.

  105.           Displays this Help screen.

  107.      [Q]uit search -
  108.           Exit search function and return to the File Menu.

  110.      [S]tart search -
  111.           After all of the search criteria has been defined, this option is
  112.           used to begin the search process.

  114.    After selecting [S]tart search, you are prompted to define which file
  115.    areas of the system you wish to search thru.  Additional help is available
  116.    from the Area sub-command prompt.
